When you think of SCS costs, just remember the '20% Rule'. An SCS Coil Line costs 20% of a pickling line, it uses only 20% of the floor space and its operating costs are 20% of P&O (see Economics for details). Yet with its clean, oil-free and rust-resistant surface, SCS commands a premium over P&O or temper pass steel.
SCS producers aren't the only ones who enjoy lower costs. SCS users gain cost savings from not having to deal with oil, from the flexibility to use more secondary steel, and from less scrap from ‘springback’ when cutting sheets.
